Cingular Steps Up To Play The Verizon Role Against Nextel

We were surprised, but happy, to see that Verizon was dropping their opposition to the plan to let Nextel swap spectrum to avoid interference with emergency responders. However, without Verizon blocking, it looks like Cingular has decided to step up the fight themselves, and are now opposing Nextel’s efforts to lower the cost of its swap plan. This might not be totally out of line. Nextel shouldn’t be able to get away with changing the deal at the last minute, but moves like this often do seem like they’re designed simply to slow the swap down.
