The End Of The Internet Is Nigh!
from the will-he-eat-those-words? dept
Broadband Reports is passing on the news that a researcher in Finland has extrapolated out a few online trends and determined that the internet will collapse in 2006, under the weight of all these evil viruses, spam and other forms of malware. He makes a bunch of suggestions to save the internet, most of which… um… appear to already be happening. He suggests improving infrastructure and coming up with email authentication projects. Apparently, in calculating out all of these trends, the good professor Hannu H Kari couldn’t be bothered to see what people were actually doing to help fix the internet’s weaknesses. There’s no word on whether or not Kari, a la Bob Metcalfe, will promise to eat his words, should the internet still be standing by the end of 2006.

Are you sure this wasn’t a reprint from the Journal of Irreproducible Results? They once had an article about how North America could be expected to sink during the next century because of the collected weight of National Geographic magazines, which nobody ever throws out.
