T-Mobile Adds .1X To Hotspots

Good news on the WiFi front. Though it was definitely going to happen sooner or later, T-Mobile has stepped up and is going to be offering 802.1X security at all of their hotspots. This should help push other providers to jump on the bandwagon — which would be very good thing. As Glenn Fleishmann notes in his post on the story, part of the problem is that most people have no idea what .1X is, and this effort by T-Mobile may help spur something of an educational campaign so people understand the importance of WiFi security. He also quotes someone from T-Mobile suggesting (seconded here) that 802.1X needs a more catchy name so people don’t get scared off by the bunch of numbers and letters.
