Switchers On The Rise
It appears that switchers on the rise. After all those initial problems with wireless number portability in the early days, it sounds like customers are now pretty confident in their ability to switch without too many problems. Over 5.4 million customers have switched, but more than half of them switched since May. Of course, it’s important to note that prior to May, only the 100 largest metropolitan areas could switch, so there was a much bigger pool starting in May (something the article forgets to mention). The article also notes that the FCC is going to require the time it takes to switch to drop from four days to two and a half days. This is interesting, because back before number portability went into effect, the FCC had told carriers it should only take two and a half hours (not days).
