Clearwire Launches First Offering

We’ve been a bit skeptical concerning Craig McCaw’s Clearwire wireless broadband offering, and I don’t think much has changed in our position now that service has actually launched in Jacksonville, Florida. It still seems like an interesting offering, but one that may have trouble competing in the long term. Still, two interesting things to note about the launch. They’re offering wireless modems that can be “checked out” from the library for no charge and they’re pushing HomePlug for home networking. Still, in its current state, it doesn’t seem to do much to distinguish itself from DSL or cable, which are its current competitors.
