JibJab Wins? This Parody Is Available For You And Me
from the so-it-goes... dept
According to Ernest Miller, the latest unconfirmed rumor is that Ludlow Music, the owners of the rights on Woody Guthrie’s music have backed down and settled the case concerning whether or not JibJab’s use of the song The Land Was Made For You And Me violated copyright. Miller guesses that Ludlow backed down to avoid losing the copyright entirely, which was a possibility if the case went to trial. I’d also like to think that the overwhelming publicity on this story, almost all of it pointing ridicule at Ludlow made them think twice about what they were doing.

Didn’t the Capitol Steps already fight this battle and win it? Parody is exempt from control? Comments? Every one of their Hits is from a copyrighted song.
