Chinese Spamming Crackdown Hits Sohu

Popular Chinese internet company Sohu.com was apparently a bit to aggressive in their marketing efforts. China Mobile says it has suspended Sohu as the supplier of its mobile phone picture services for one year, after Sohu started spamming the users. Sohu apparently sent out messages heavily promoting the service, without first talking it over with China Mobile. Considering that a large part of Sohu.com’s revenue comes from its mobile messaging services, this is likely to hurt them quite a bit. Many are saying this was designed to send companies a message that spamming is not okay, and it appears the message has been received loud-and-clear at Sohu.
