Venture Funding On The Increase… Depending Where You Are

from the location,-location,-location dept

The latest set of venture capital numbers suggest that (as everyone has been saying) the wallets of VCs are starting to open up again as they see the IPO window widening as well. Of course, it depends on industry and location. For all the hype about biotech, VCs are realizing it may be safer to bet on software right now. Software received the most venture funds, beating out biotech, which had been the most popular target the two previous quarters. Of course, the bigger issue was location. Life wasn’t so good if you were trying to raise money in Utah, Massachussetts or Texas. However, things looked much better if you were located in San Diego, Florida or Washington state. Of course, in many of these locations, just a few big investments represent the majority of the activity – so it’s hard to pick out specific trends based on locations where there really isn’t that much money invested on an ongoing basis.
