T-Mobile's Smart Bet?
People have gone back and forth over whether or not T-Mobile made a smart decision with their buyout of Mobilestar and their very early decision to support WiFi. Now, Pyramid Research is saying that it’s certainly paying off for T-Mobile just in attracting new customers who are passing up other carriers who don’t have the WiFi tie-in. It also is decreasing churn as T-Mobile customers don’t want to lose the WiFi access by switching to another carrier. Of course, if this is true, it still supports the argument that T-Mobile should drop the prices on their WiFi access. If they’re using it to attract new customers for their cellular service and to keep their cellular users from leaving, wouldn’t it make sense to make it even more attractive to users?
