Gmail? Don't We Already Have Gmail?

from the another-legal-fight dept

Well, I’m betting this is more about getting publicity and/or a little payout from Google, but a research company in the UK is claiming that they’ve been using the word “Gmail” to refer to their own system for passing on information to clients. Of course, again, with trademark infringement this is only likely to be a problem if the two are going to be confused – and it’s unclear that that’s the case here. The two “Gmails” appear to describe very different services. Most likely, though, Google will end up giving these guys some money to make the problem go away.
