One Year Later… European Mobile Alliance Gets A Brand

For those paying close attention, you may remember the announcement, nearly a year ago, for a bunch of European wireless carriers to team up and offer roaming across all their networks in an effort to fight off the growing worldwide dominance of Vodafone. Of course, things didn’t run so smoothly from the start, and there was even some well publicized bickering over who had the rights to what nations. Now, however, their differences have been put behind them (or at least locked up out of view for the time being) and they’ve announced that the alliance has a brand: FreeMove. Of course, while they now have a brand, they still don’t have an actual service and some are a bit skeptical on the chances of such a service – with or without a brand. To be honest, reading all the press coverage about this story, the only thing I can think of is “it took them a year to come up with just a brand?”
