Docusearch Pays Out Fine In Murder Case

from the what-info-do-they-have-about-you dept

We’ve written about the Amy Boyer murder case before. It concerned a deranged man who stalked a woman and wrote about his plans to kill her on the internet. He also used the internet to buy more information about Boyer. Boyer’s family then went and sued the company that sold the info, Docusearch. Last year, a judge ruled that Docusearch broke the law in handing over Boyer’s info. Of course, the company appealed, dragging on the process. Now, however, the company has settled with the Boyers and agreed to pay $86,000 in damages. There are still questions, though, about the legality of these information brokers and whether or not what they do is legal.
