What Do Discount Airlines And Discount Wireless Carriers Have In Common?

from the what's-the-attraction? dept

Discount airlines have clearly shaken up the airline industry, and now discount MVNO mobile phone companies are poised to shake up that industry as well. Do the two things have a lot in common? It seems some people think so, as it appears that a bunch of MVNOs in the British Isles are all connected to discount airlines. There’s Virgin (Airlines and Mobile) who clearly has been an innovator in both of these areas. Now there’s EasyJet and EasyTelecom and Ryannair and Ryannair Telecom. Clearly, there are some similarities between the two industries, with some large established players dominating, but leaving a clear lower end open for competition. Still, it doesn’t seem like the most obvious connection. Are we soon going to see TelecomBlue in the US?
