China Worried About Subversive Spam

from the whatever-works... dept

While the largest percentage of spam still originates in the US, there is an increasing percentage coming from Asia, with a large chunk of it from China. Anti-spam groups have been trying to convince China to crack down on spammers, but haven’t had much luck… until now. Apparently, China isn’t all that concerned about overflowing email boxes advertising pills and porns… but political spam scares the daylights out of them. They’re realizing that some folks may be using spam to get “subversive” messages out, and says they’re now going to crack down on spam. Of course, you wonder if they’re really cracking down on spam at all, or if they’re just going to use this as yet another way to stifle political dissent – accusing anyone who disagrees with them of “spamming.”
