When Phones Become Computers… And Vice Versa

from the can't-keep-track-any-more dept

With the rise of things like WiFi phones and voice over IP, it’s going to become increasingly difficult to explain the difference between a computer and a phone. Basically, for things to work the way they’re supposed to, phone devices are going to need to increasingly take on the abilities of a full computer system. This isn’t necessarily a bad thing – but is likely to cause confusion. Already, regulators can’t figure out the difference between VoIP and a regular phone call, so don’t expect them to be eager to determine whether or not your next laptop needs to come with E-911 capabilities as well.
