EDGE / Symbian Smartphone On It's Way To US

Nokia has unveiled a new smartphone for EDGE networks, such as the one operated by ATTWS. The smartphone uses the Euro-originated Symbian OS to perform functions such as browsing, email, and PIM. The phone also touts streaming software from Real, which when combined with the 100+Kbps EDGE network should provide a decent motion video experience. We expect the phone to also have Bluetooth, so that it will be able to easily share the EDGE bandwidth with a laptop computer. The ATTWS EDGE network remains the fastest national network, just ahead of the 1xRTT offerings from Sprint PCS and Verizon Wireless, however, VZW has announced plans to deploy EV-DO nationally this year, jumping way ahead in the data-rate race.
