Bhutan Gets Mobile Phones

Back in August we were a bit surprised to discover that Bhutan had just come up with the idea of the unmanned telephone booth. That’s right, before this summer, all telephone booths in Bhutan required a human operator to supervise in the calling process. So, it’s a bit of a surprise to see that they’ve leapfrogged so quickly from the amazing unmanned booth, all the way to the mobile phone in four or five months. Of course, the mobile phones and service are priced out of the reach of most locals, but it does suggest technology is catching up. Of course, I’m assuming these mobile phones don’t require supervision from a mobile phone operator as well…
