Wireless Will Drive Your Car

In a move that will accelerate the development of Intelligent Transportation Systems (ITS) the FCC approved the use of certain frequencies in the 5.9GHz band for ITS. ITS includes ideas from toll collection, to smart stoplights based on priorities and traffic, to cars that adjust their speeds automatically, and fall into a kind of “train” with the other cars on the highway. These solutions may sound way out there, but the simpler ones have already made their way onto the nation’s roads, and the complex ones may arrive soon. We need new solutions to congestion, pollution, and accidents, and technology will help.
