BT Pushing Wireless Broadband For Rural Communities
Who wants to run wires out into the sticks? Not BT, apparently. They’re now testing some wireless broadband options for certain rural communities that they’re unlikely to serve up DSL to. They admit that, if the trials are a success, they still expect the wireless broadband to be more expensive than DSL, but if there’s no other option, they’re still likely to find some buyers. Of course, we’ve been hearing about the promise for wireless broadband for many years, and each time a big carrier does some tests, they seem to end up going nowhere. Some small providers have figured it out, but the big carriers can’t seem to get it right. The technology is certainly improving, and one of these days, someone will figure it out, but I wouldn’t be holding my breath just yet.
