John Zuccarini Pleads Guilty Of Typosquatting Scam
from the on-the-run-no-more dept
John Zuccarini, who became famous for refusing to answer any questions in court about where he lived – and then disappearing completely, was arrested back in September after police finally tracked him down. Despite his earlier attempts to avoid being held responsible, he has now decided to enter a guilty plea for enticing children onto porn sites by typosquatting on thousands of domain names similar to popular children’s destination like Disney. He’s expected to get about three years in jail when sentenced. While the article doesn’t talk about it, there’s a lot more to this case. Authorities have been chasing after him for quite some time, but in this case, they charged him under a very new law, focused on those who register misleading domain names for porn. What I still don’t understand is that the FTC fined him a while back and ordered these domains taken offline. How come that never happened and why wasn’t he charged with evading the police before and ignoring the FTC’s order against him? Also, the article leaves out his history of either disappearing or ignoring rulings against him. I imagine if they throw him in jail, he’ll have an escort to make sure he makes it there.
