Mobile Parking Comes To The US

The US always seems a bit behind when it comes to adopting new mobile phone devices and applications. So, while we’ve already had stories about the ability to pay for parking with your mobile phone in Singapore, Ireland, Scotland and Vienna, I’m still a bit surprised to hear that it’s coming to the US already. That’s right, over in lovely Greenwich, Connecticut they’re planning to let people pay for their parking via their mobile phones. It’s a little unclear how this system works, as they say anyone who signs up has to get a special “tag” for inside their car. I’m not sure if the tag is just so the meter maids don’t ticket you, or if it has some sort of actual purpose in the system. The system does allow the most important feature, though, which is the ability to extend your parking time from anywhere.
