The More You Commute, The More You Need A Mobile Phone

Found over at textually.org is the news that cities with longer average commutes have greater mobile phone penetration. The study suggests (though, no particular evidence is given) that one reason people buy mobile phones is to use them in their car during drive time. No wonder so many people are upset by laws outlawing driving-while-yakking.
