Home Automation The WiFi Way

While everyone has been focused recently on the whole WiFi hotspot concept, it looks like more and more products are coming to market that help connect consumer electronics products to your home network via WiFi. It’s a nice idea, and early adopters will probably do some neat home automation tricks with such devices – but for the average consumer it’s really not that compelling yet. Most people still look on most of their home appliance and consumer electronics as separate pieces that don’t necessarily need to be connected over a network. While I hate to use the term “killer app”, there’s going to need to be a more clearly defined “killer app” to convince your average consumer why their TV needs to connect to their fridge via WiFi.
