When Everyone Is A Freelance Reporter

from the welcome-to-we-media dept

Folks like Dan Gillmor have been saying for years, that future news stories are going to be reported by folks on the scene with camera phones. The latest column from Steve Outing looks at how some news organizations are using this idea to report on Hurricane Isabel. Some are more accepting than others – but many news organizations are already asking for photos and commentary from the public. With the ease of sending in images from camera phones (even if they’re not the greatest quality), it will be interesting to see if different types of stories appear – rather than the typical “aftermath” roundups.
