Verizon Wireless To Spend $1B For 1xRTT Expansion

Hot on the heels of the story below regarding VZW’s mobile data success, it should come as little surprise that when mobile data shows the ability to earn revenues, capital expenditures will be allocated to building the wireless data network. Thus, Verizon Wireless plans to spend $1 Billion on upgrading and expanding their 1xRTT coverage. The spend will take place over the next few years, and actual disbursement allocations were not specifically made, other than the suggestion that Nortel would be on the receiving end of a check or two. Note that 1xRTT also offers voice efficiencies, increasing the number of voice calls that can co-exist on a single channel.
