Fuel Cells To Power Mobile Devices

Fuel cell technology has long promised to be the solution for current mobile power dilemmas in practical uses running from automotive to mobile phones. The technology is still in the prototype state (I made my first fuel-cell call a couple of years ago on a prototype from PolyFuel), but current reports suggest mobile phones powered by fuel cells will be commercially offered as soon as the start of 2005. The devices will offer the advantages of much longer battery life, and could possibly be re-fueled as simply as a butane lighter. The downside is a very small exhaust of water vapor, which could create a moist spot. I’m looking forward to fuel-cell products, at first as substitutes or options to batteries, but eventually fully replacing those piles of piles we use.
