How Relentless Marketing Made The N-Gage

When Nokia first announced the mobile phone/gaming device N-Gage, the concept was widely panned as being a dud, and unlikely to find many users. However, thanks to a massive amount of marketing dollars spent (often on the series of misnamed “launch” parties they seem to have every month or so – despite the fact that the device still hasn’t actually launched) more folks are taking a second look at the N-Gage and wondering if it might catch on. In the end, though, the success of this sort of device will depend on whether or not kids pick up on it as the fad of the moment – and judging what will succeed as a fad is nearly impossible.
