Wintel Comes To Mobile Phones

The partnership that has so dominated desktop computing for so long – Microsoft for software and Intel for chips – is finally making an appearance in the mobile phone world. This fall, Taiwanese firm MiTAC will be introducing the first Wintel (yes, both companies hate it when anyone refers to the partnership that way) mobile phones. The phone will initially be released in Europe. Should be interesting to watch what happens. While the two companies have quite a bit of power (and money), others who are already in the market are doing their best to stay ahead and not let the combination kill them. With desktops, the Wintel duopoly came as a bit of a surprise to others. In the mobile phone world, companies already know what they’re dealing with. The real question is how many will resist?
