Bringing Broadband To Rural America
A short Washington Post article discusses the new push to get companies to offer high speed internet access to rural America, with a big focus on making that access wireless. They’re offering $1.45 billion in low-interest loans to companies that can prove they’re in a position to connect rural communities wirelessly. Of course, these are loans, and not investments or grants, so they’re looking for companies that have a chance of actually paying the money back. They say they’re encouraged by new wireless technology, because it lowers the initial capital expenditure (the biggest problem) greatly.
