Hotspots Cold Cells

The always opinionated and ever-interesting Bob Frankston has written a great essay called Hotspots Cold Cells, talking about the possibilities for wireless spectrum, and why it should strike fear into the hearts of telcos too enamored with their current business models. A great look into the business model issues associated with wireless, and why trying to block off wireless usage by charging on any sort of toll-based system ends up hindering the possibilities of wireless. Worth reading. One great point (and there are a few) is pointing out that so many “wireless” technologies are designed to simply create “faux wires”, rather than actually offer “wireless” solutions. There’s a difference – and it’s important.
