VoIP And WiFi – Perfect Together

A match made in heaven? The director of the Wireless VoIP consortium (biased? nah…) is telling people that as long as they’re looking at both VoIP and WiFi they might as well look at adding VoIP over WiFi. I certainly agree that there are benefits to doing VoIP over WiFi (or VoW as some are suggesting it should be called). However, for companies that are exploring these options, they should be careful. When deploying such a system, you want to avoid adding layers of complexity – and suddenly you have to deal with the wireless network, the VoIP system and how the two interact. I’m not sure if I’d want to be the first company on the block to experiment with such combined systems even though I’m a huge fan of the concept.
