Number Portability Would Prompt Switch On Mobile Phones

Don’t you just love dueling studies? Yesterday, the CTIA was having a field day with their survey that said most people weren’t interested in number portability. However, a study coming out today suggests very different results. They said that 27% of wireless users are interested in switching, depending on what other options are out there. 6% said they would switch the very first day they could to get away from their current provider. Of those who have had bad service experiences with their carrier, 50% plan to switch. Of course, what people say and what they actually do are two very different things. I would bet that many people who say they would switch end up staying out of inertia. However, it will be interesting to see if the wireless carriers take a page from the landline carriers’ efforts to get people to switch offering all sorts of enticements.
