Cingular Takes Wireless Battle to New Low Price

So much for the “wireless price wars” being over. In the last six months or so there were all these stories about how the ever dropping price of mobile phone service had reached some sort of stalemate among the different US carriers – and was even creeping up in some cases. That might have just been a brief plateau. Cingular has the ball rolling downhill again as they’re now offering a unlimited calling plan at $50/month. This is interesting because people have been saying that the carriers needed to stop fighting for market share and start focusing on value-added services that will drive up their ARPUs (average revenue per user). It would appear that this landgrab move by Cingular suggests a realization that they might not have nice enough features to offer customers, and have to resort to stealing marketshare from competitors to grow.
