Philips Bets Big On TD-SCDMA
Philips has decided that TD-SCDMA, the 3G technology China has decided to bet on, is the way to go. They claimed today that they have no interest in re-entering the CDMA chip set market, but will put all of those efforts twoards TD-SCDMA – which has already received a decidedly mixed reception from Chinese mobile phone companies. While the Chinese market is huge, and if the government successfully pushes through with TD-SCDMA, it could be quite a win for Philips, it’s clearly a bit risky. They also seem to believe that if TD-SCDMA takes off in China, it will catch on elsewhere as well.
