Microsoft Proposes Their Own Spam Law

from the everyone's-got-an-opinion dept

Because there simply aren’t enough spam laws already clogging up Congress (perhaps that’s the idea… politicians are spamming themselves with spam laws), Microsoft is coming out and suggesting their own anti-spam law. This one takes the standard approach of requiring strong punishment for those caught spamming, but adds to it an electronic “seal-of-approval” required for mass marketing emails that didn’t want to include the “ADV:” in their subject lines. A few companies have tried to set up such a system, and it hasn’t done much good, so it’s unclear why this would be any different. The article also mentions that the spam bill that was widely discussed a couple weeks ago has been pulled back after all the public criticism about it being too weak.
