Minsky Blasts Modern AI Research

If we can teach a computer to understand the crazy politics that goes on in the world of artificial intelligence, then we’ll know we’ve really created something special. Marvin Minsky, sometimes credited as the “father of AI”, is not known for being shy about his opinions. In a recent speech he spent some time trashing most of those who are doing AI research today, saying that almost nothing of interest has been done in AI in years. Of course, those he was clearly aiming for, responded saying they were a bit insulted by Minsky’s words, though, no one seemed all that surprised. Of course, my theory on things like this, is that if you’re not happy what others are doing in the field, then get to work on it yourself.
