Windshield Speakers Could Make Car Phones Safer

There have been a few studies that have said that people driving while talking with handsfree kits are just as distracted as those who are holding the phone up to their ear. A new study suggests both a reason why, and a way to potentially solve this. The study found that if the handsfree speaker is placed on the dashboard, directly in front of the driver, they tend to be much less distracted. If the speaker is to their side, or in their ear, they are more distracted, as it’s natural to pay attention to the direction where any sound is coming from.
