Nokia Research Suggests High Demand For MMS

Beware the corporate sponsored study that says “what we’re planning on selling has bigger demand than expected!” Nokia has sponsored a study saying that lots of people are clamoring for expensive MMS services – when reality doesn’t seem to be agreeing with that point. Certainly, there are some areas where MMS has been catching on, but almost all other studies about usage say it’s been slow to take off – mainly because people weren’t sure why they needed to add anything (at a high price) to their SMS habit. Of course, the lack of interoperability across carriers hasn’t helped matters. As that gets sorted out, and as more camera phones hit the market, MMS use should pick up somewhat, but carriers need to stop looking at it as “expensive SMS with pictures”.
