Should IM Be Banned From The Office?
from the well,-it-depends... dept
Apparently, some companies that don’t understand the benefits of instant messaging are now banning it from the office – which seems like a pretty extreme response to a tool that can increase productivity greatly. Yes, I know that it can also decrease productivity if improperly used and that it also raises some questions for companies like investment banks where all communications are supposed to be recorded. However, simply banning IM outright, without any regard for how it can be used to boost productivity is an overreaction. It’s just like companies that banned the telephone when it first became popular.
