Cellular Pioneer Still Causing Stir
Dan Gillmor caught up with Martin Cooper to talk about what’s happened in the 30 years since he built the first cellular telephone, and Cooper (rightly so) started trashing the current wireless industry players. He claims they’re “focused on gimmicks and gadgets and [have] forgotten the customer.” I wonder if they ever really did focus on the customer. It seems, these days, that most of the wireless carriers are simply focused on how they can squeeze every last penny out of customers, rather than realizing that they could grow the industry in ways that would open up greater opportunities.
