From Nokia, Something for Everyone
Business Week is now noticing something that we pointed out a little while ago. It appears that Nokia has finally realized that the days of “one mobile phone fits all” are long gone. As the market growth has slowed, there’s a real opportunity to make phones for specific purposes and specific activities. Business Week looks at how Nokia has restructured their entire business around making different phones for everyone. This, of course, fits with the points people from Nokia have made in the past about trying to get consumers to buy more than one phone – different phones for different occassions – in order to grow the overall market. The article also mentions that other handset makers, such as Motorola, are starting to latch onto this idea as well. This will certainly mean a lot more choice in the handset world, but there’s still a question of how quickly consumers will accept it.
