Data Services Will Account For Third Of Mobile Revenues

According to a new report, from the creatively named research firm Analysys, (and you know how reliable these sorts of things are, so make sure you have a few grains of salt on hand), by 2008 one-third of mobile phone revenue will be from data services. To be honest, though, the estimate does sound about right, though, I wonder how they’ll break down the revenue stream for “bundled” plans. When you have a plan that has “unlimited data and 1000 minutes of talk time” or something like that – which revenue goes to which function? The report also suggests that by 2008, WLAN systems will be taking 1.5% to 2.5% of the data revenue away from 2.5G or 3G systems.
