Motorola and Microsoft

Last month we picked up on a hint that Motorola thinks it will eventually have to work with Microsoft’s mobile software. The Register thinks tomorrow could be the day they announce a deal. If the do, it would mean that Motorola is emulating Samsung’s strategy of working with multiple mobile OS platforms, which we think is the smartest strategy out there. The conventional wisdom is that there is bloody battle brewing over mobile OS dominance. That’s certainly what the OS guys want everyone to think so that they are forced to choose sides. However carriers and handset makers would be smart to ignore this pressure and stay focused on what ‘s best for each market segment they are targetting.
