Speak Softly and Deploy a Large Footprint
Roaming is an important issue in the fractured world of Wi-Fi networks. At the moment there is no standard mechanism in place, but there are many options. Hoping to bring some order to the industry and make things easier for end users, the Wi-Fi Alliance has issued a draft of roaming recommendations. Without a standard WISPs either buy into a technology and work with others who also support that technology or adopt the technology of their partners. An industry standard would go a way long in making sure that everytime you turned on your laptop near a hotspot you’d have a simple way of getting online.
