Top Handset Vendors Tighten Grip On Market
With all the talk of new, innovative handset makers coming onto the market, it seems that the big players aren’t backing down. The top four players – Nokia, Motorola, Samsung, and Siemens – now own a larger percentage of the market than they did a year ago. Their share has been boosted from 68.6% at the end of 2001 to 73.6% today. Samsung grew the fastest of all four, while Nokia grew slowly – but had such a big lead already that they increased it. Motorola grew mainly through its low cost handsets.
