U.S. Opens Online Portal To Rulemaking

from the comment-away dept

It appears that the US government has opened up a portal to let people comment on various regulations. The idea is to have a central place where people can go and give their feedback in a way that is more likely for lawmakers to hear it. It’s a great concept, and I’m actually quite surprised that the government has put it together. There certainly have been one-off efforts like this, but to have a whole portal is great. Of course, the downside of this is that, unfortunately, many regulations will probably get troll-style obnoxious comments. The people behind the portal say it’s a way to “level the playing field” and let those other than special interest groups have their say. Of course, it’s likely that those same special interest groups will learn to abuse the system to “stuff” the comment box themselves, in order to squelch out the voices of individuals.
