Oracle Boat Racers Used High-Tech Sunglasses

from the oooh dept

While it didn’t do them much good in the end, Larry Ellison’s Oracle/BMW racing boat was equipped with some funky sunglasses that displayed live performance data to the crew as they were racing. The system was modified from the one BMW used in their Formula One racing cars. It would apparently tailor the information to each sailor, so they saw the specific information they needed. Of course, this sounds like it would be great for driving an ordinary car, but I imagine it’s still a bit cost-prohibitive. However, on an $80 million yacht, things like computerized sunglasses are probably an after-thought.
