A number of studies are popping up giving some numbers concerning identity theft, and they’re not encouraging at all. They’re growing year to year, and the losses keep piling up. One study found that over 5% of respondents had been a victim of some form of identity theft, while almost 20% at least knew someone who was a victim. There is one important point though. With all the hype around how the internet contributes to identity theft, the most common cause is fairly low tech: a lost wallet.
