Search Engines Get Gatored

from the just-can't-stop-them dept

Gator, the adware/spyware company people love to hate, is moving on to forcing their pop ups on search engine searches. The idea is that if you do a search on Google and have Gator installed, the software will pop up an ad based on the same keyword that was sold on Overture. For a variety of reasons, you can see why Google (which has a strict anti-pop-up policy) wouldn’t be too pleased about this. I wonder if Google (and other search engines) will decide to follow in the footsteps of many angry media websites that sued Gator earlier this year for taking away ad revenue.
