Virus Hoax Chart Makes Grim Reading
from the let's-try-this-once-again... dept
It’s really quite amazing to me that so many people still automatically forward anything that says “forward this to everone in your addressbook!!!”. I think I can be somewhat rude in my replies to such messages (though, I’ve toned down my responses lately), so most of my friends have learned to check out hoax sites before forwarding things. However, virus hoaxes are still insanely popular and people just keep on forwarding them to everyone they know. Even worse, many actually follow the other advice in those hoax virus alerts and delete completely valid programs on their computer. I still wonder how these sorts of hoaxes get started.

Terry Pratchett writes in the book Reaper Man that people are sure to believe any sentence with more than three exclamation points after it. So it must be true!!!!
